Devon Rex are social, intelligent and initiative cats that like to be high up, where they have a good view over everything that is happening around them. They are more than happy to sit on your shoulder and gaze upon the world that surrounds them. Devon Rex has a great need for stimulation and if you work long hours your cat will feel much better having another cat as company. They love warmth more than other normal coated cats, and are therefore not adapted for a life outdoors. Though you can take your cat for a walk on a leash outside, as long as the temperature is fairly warm.
The Breeds History
Devon Rex is a relatively young breed that originate from a male, Kirlee, who was born at Beryl Cox in Devonshire, England 1960. In the beginning Devon Rex was mated with Cornish Rex (Cornish Rex had then already been around for 10 years). In 1965 these two breeds was separated and two years later (1967) both breeds were aknowledged as separate breeds by GCCF (Great Britain's Governing Coucil of the Cat Fancy). That same year the first Devon Rexen was imported to Sweden.
